Maritime Transport Common Trade Terms and Their Differences and Connections
With the continuous development of international trade, maritime transport, as one of the main transportation methods, has become increasingly important in the use of trade terms. This article will introduce several commonly used maritime trade terms and analyze their differences and connections.
I. FCA Free Carrier
FCA stands for Free Carrier, which means that the seller delivers the goods to the carrier designated by the buyer at the location specified by the carrier, and completes the export customs clearance procedures, thus fulfilling the delivery. The risks and costs of the goods are transferred from the seller to the buyer from the time of delivery. The buyer needs to bear the costs and risks of receiving, transporting, and insuring the goods. Under the FCA term, the seller needs to provide necessary documents and information to assist the buyer in completing the delivery of the goods.
II. CPT Carriage Paid To
CPT stands for Carriage Paid To, which means that the seller delivers the goods to the carrier designated by the buyer and bears all the costs and risks before delivery. Under the CPT term, the seller needs to arrange transportation matters at the specified location and handle the transportation insurance according to the usual trade conditions. The buyer needs to bear the costs and risks of receiving, transporting, and insuring the goods and is responsible for handling the import customs clearance procedures. It should be noted that under the CPT term, the seller needs to provide necessary documents and information to assist the buyer in completing the delivery of the goods and insurance claims.
III. DAT Delivered At Terminal
DAT stands for Delivered at Terminal, which means that the seller delivers the goods to the terminal or container freight station at the specified destination port and completes the export customs clearance procedures, thus fulfilling the delivery. The risks and costs of the goods are transferred from the seller to the buyer from the time of delivery. The buyer needs to bear the costs and risks of receiving, transporting, and insuring the goods. It should be noted that the delivery location under the DAT term is usually a specific delivery point such as a container yard or container freight station.
IV. Other Trade Terms
In addition to the above three commonly used trade terms, DDP Delivered Duty Paid and CFR Cost and Freight are also widely used in maritime transport. The main differences and connections between these terms lie in the delivery location, the time of risk and cost transfer, and the requirements for documents.
In summary, when choosing maritime trade terms, sellers need to comprehensively consider factors such as the mode of transportation, regulations at the destination, and both parties' trade practices based on specific circumstances to choose the most suitable trade term. At the same time, buyers also need to understand the meanings and requirements of relevant terms to better fulfill contractual obligations.

December 12, 2024The experience was very good. I was still struggling to compare it with other companies. I went to the site a few days ago and wanted to implement it as soon as possible. I didn't expect that everything exceeded my expectations. The company is very large, with several hundred square meters. The employees are also dedicated and responsible. There is also a wall of certificates. I placed an order on the spot. It turned out that I did not make a wrong choice. The company's service attitude is very good and professional. The person who contacted me explained various things in detail in advance. After placing the order, the follow-up was also very timely, and they took the initiative to report the progress to me. In short, I am very satisfied and recommend this company!

December 18, 2024When I first consulted customer service, they recommended an agent to me. They were very professional and patient and provided excellent service. They answered my questions as they came in. This 2-to-1 service model is very thoughtful. I had a lot of questions that I didn’t understand, and it’s not easy to register a company in Hong Kong. Fortunately, I have you.

December 19, 2024I originally thought that they only did mainland business, but I didn’t expect that they had been doing Hong Kong business and were doing very well. After the on-site interview, I decided to ask them to arrange the registration of my Hong Kong company. They helped me complete it very quickly and provided all the necessary information. The efficiency was awesome. It turns out that professional things should be done by professionals.👍

The merchant said that they have been operating offline for more than 10 years and are indeed an old team of corporate services.
